Last week students finished up work with a short story, and looked at different elements within ALL short stories we studied that help the reader understand the text. These text features can range from anything from maps or diagrams on the page borders, to bold or high-lighted words that have accompanying explanations. We brainstormed a list of about 15 text elements (most of which can be found in the texts of the stories I provided for students).
The unit project combines an understanding of those elements with student understanding of the various parts of short stories. Students will need to demonstrate understanding of these short story parts by using text features on a copy of a story I will provide. Please see the assessment overview below.

Students were given a choice of TWO stories to do for this project. Those stories were passed out on Thursday. If there are any students who require copies of these stories, they will need to email me, and I can provide them.
Students will have the classes this week (Feb. 10-14) to work on this project, and are expected to come to class prepared to work, and to spend class time working productively. The due date to this project will depend on whether students use their time well, but a preliminary date for end of class, Friday, February 14, has been set.
