Grade 12s,
As we end another week, I wanted to send out a few announcements:
1. Please remember to check-in with me if you haven't already done so. Everyone should be familiar with the routine and what happens if students don't check in with their teachers. I track your check-ins through my weekly Google Forms, through your assignment submissions, and through every email and Google Classroom communication you make. Yet some people do slip through the cracks.
2. Ms. Twarog is still with us, and in addition to curating some course content, she has expressed interest in reading and participating in some of your novel discussions. If you would like to invite her into your doc, please reach out to her at [email protected]
3. Term 3 interims are published on Monday. As a service to all grade 12s, I have included an updated percentage for everyone on the interim. This percentage reflects the marks accumulated up to and including the Othello unit.
4. With respect to the previous item, and considering the fact that some students prefer to express their concerns and grievances with the course indirectly with other adults who work within the school, instead of directly with their teacher, I offer the following advice for getting through the course:
Do what you are capable of. Every single student is going through a different set of experiences and is faced with a unique set of circumstances. For a variety of reasons, some people struggle to maintain optimum efficiency, productivity, and optimism during this time. Other people are managing quite well, and probably the majority of you are somewhere in between.
So here is what you should do if you are in one of the following three categories:
I GOT AN "I" AND AN EDUCATION PLAN
- Do everything it says in that education plan acceptably, and you will pass. This should be your singular focus.
I DIDN'T HAND IN MY UNIT ACTIVITIES FOR OTHELLO OR THE SHORT STORIES or I MISSED A KEY SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT DEADLINE FOR THESE UNITS
- That would probably explain the lower percentage. You should be looking into what you can still hand in / do. I can be of help with that. THIS should be what you are working on in English, until you get caught up.
ALL CAUGHT UP.
- Bless you and your hard work. Enjoy the novels and contribute where you can to the weekly assignments.
If any of you are still unclear about your standing in the course and what you should be working on in the coming weeks, please feel free to let me know.
Take care, and may the fourth be with you,
Pike
